Visa is embracing AI-enabled payments and stablecoins to stay ahead in a rapidly evolving digital payments landscape, according to Stephen Karpin, Asia-Pacific president. As societies increasingly shift away from cash, many in Asia are adopting e-wallets, QR codes, and super apps, bypassing physical credit cards. Traditional card companies are adapting to this shift. On Wednesday, at the Singapore FinTech Festival, Visa unveiled two significant innovations: AI-powered payments and stablecoin settlements. The first innovation involves AI agents that can shop and pay on behalf of consumers across Asia, addressing a gap in current LLM-powered chatbots. Customers can load their Visa cards onto these agents and opt for personalized recommendations. The second initiative is Visa's stable settlement pilot, enabling partners to use stablecoins across supported blockchains. Stablecoins, pegged to stable assets like fiat currencies, are gaining traction in cross-border transactions. Karpin highlighted Visa's early recognition of blockchain's potential for payments a decade ago. Visa aims to make stablecoins a global payment option when regulations permit, supporting businesses in Web3. The payments landscape in Asia is evolving rapidly, with super apps disrupting traditional services. Visa is collaborating with super app providers like Line Pay in Taiwan, allowing users to pay by scanning QR codes globally. Despite being the world's second-largest card payment organization, Visa is adapting to the changing market, ensuring seamless payments for travelers worldwide.
