A political shakeup is unfolding in Osun State, Nigeria, as a prominent figure, Mr. Moshood Adeoti, has made a surprising move. The former Secretary to the Osun State Government has decided to part ways with the Omoluabi Progressives, a key caucus within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Adeoti, who served as SSG during the tenure of ex-governor Rauf Aregbesola, was a prominent figure within the Omoluabi Progressives. He held the position of Deputy Leader and was the preferred choice for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in 2022. However, fate took a different turn, and he lost to the incumbent governor, Adegboyega Oyetola.
The path to the ADC began after Adeoti and Aregbesola, along with their loyalists, were expelled from the APC. They found a new political home in the ADC, and Adeoti actively participated in its formal unveiling in Osogbo. But here's where it gets controversial: Adeoti has now announced his withdrawal from the group, sending shockwaves through the political landscape.
In a letter dated November 30, 2025, addressed to the Chairman of the Omoluabi Progressives, Adeoti stated his intention to step away from the group's activities. He cited personal reasons, explaining that it was a difficult decision, especially considering his significant contributions to the group's survival during its turbulent journey.
Additionally, Adeoti mentioned the pressure from his family, urging him to take a break from political activities. But this is the part most people miss: Adeoti's resignation may have been triggered by an internal power struggle within the Omoluabi Progressives.
According to sources within the group, Adeoti's departure stems from his failure to secure the group's support for the upcoming ADC governorship primary. In a mini-election held among the group's leaders, Dr. Najeem Salaam emerged as the preferred aspirant, winning 11 votes, while Adeoti received only 3. This outcome seemingly led to Adeoti's decision to leave.
Efforts to reach Adeoti for further clarification were unsuccessful, leaving room for speculation. However, Oluwaseun Abosede, the Publicity Secretary of the Omoluabi Progressives, shed some light on the matter. Abosede suggested that Adeoti has a pattern of leaving when decisions don't go his way, expressing disappointment but maintaining a calm tone.
Abosede highlighted the group's efforts to accommodate Adeoti's interests in the past, from his time as chairman of the AC and ACN to his appointment as SSG. The group's support extended to Aregbesola's desire to have a governor from the West Senatorial District in 2018, but this plan was thwarted by President Bola Tinubu.
Despite these setbacks, Abosede expressed hope that Adeoti would return to the political fold, acknowledging that politics is not without its crises and resolutions.
