One of the most significant changes for users of the Claude app (web, mobile, and desktop) is the reduction of abrupt conversation endings. Previously, conversations could be cut short due to the hard context window limit of 200,000 tokens. Imagine being in the middle of a crucial discussion, only to have the AI suddenly shut down!
But here's where it gets interesting: Instead of simply trimming older messages (like some other models do), Claude used to end the conversation to prevent the AI from becoming incoherent. Now, Opus 4.5 implements a clever behind-the-scenes process. It summarizes key points from earlier parts of the conversation, keeping the important information while discarding the less relevant details. This means longer, more coherent conversations!
Developers aren't left out either. They can utilize similar context management and compaction techniques through Anthropic's API, ensuring more efficient and effective AI interactions in their applications.
Opus 4.5: Performance Unleashed
The numbers speak for themselves. Opus 4.5 has achieved an impressive accuracy score of 80.9% on the SWE-Bench Verified benchmark, surpassing OpenAI’s recently released GPT-5.1-Codex-Max (77.9%) and Google’s Gemini 3 Pro (76.2%). It excels in agentic coding and tool use benchmarks.
And this is the part most people miss... While Opus 4.5 is a coding champion, it still trails behind GPT-5.1 in visual reasoning (MMMU).
