2026 Anaheim 1 Supercross Penalty Report | Haiden Deegan Fined for TV Interview | Racer X (2026)

Breaking News: Haiden Deegan Fined and Penalized at Anaheim 1!

On January 15, 2026, the Supercross world was buzzing after the Anaheim 1 (A1) race. While Michael Mosiman was being interviewed after the 250SX main event, fans noticed Haiden Deegan, who finished fourth, was absent. Was he penalized? The answer is yes, but not in the way you might think. Deegan was penalized for skipping his TV interview, leading to a fine.

But here's where it gets controversial: This seemingly minor infraction now carries a bigger consequence. In the past, missing a TV interview usually resulted in a fine. However, in the new system, it also adds a point to a rider's license. Deegan now has one point on his license.

What's the Big Deal About License Points?

This new system, implemented for the 2026 season and beyond, is designed to keep riders in check both on and off the track. If a rider accumulates 15 points on their license within a 365-day period, they'll face championship point deductions. But that's not all. There are other penalties along the way, such as losing gate picks. The points can be earned for various infractions, including aggressive riding, skipping media sessions, and jumping through sections with red cross flags.

Here's how it works: Points expire 365 days after the initial infraction. The TV crew has the right to ask key riders, like the points leader or defending champion, to do a TV interview, even if they don't finish on the podium.

Beyond the Fine: A Broader Penalty System

This license point system works in addition to existing penalties. For instance, the A1 report showed ten failed sound tests, nine of which happened during qualifying. The most significant penalty was for Jorge Prado, who failed a post-race sound test after the 450SX main event. He was penalized three championship points.

What do you think about this new system? Is it fair to penalize riders for missing interviews, or should the focus remain on on-track performance? Share your thoughts in the comments!
